CPD Courses

Do you want to learn more about mitochondrial damage in skin?

We have a programme of CPD approved videos which have been written and presented by Professor Mark Birch-Machin, a recognised world leader in the field of molecular dermatology.

His group has pioneered research into the mitochondria’s role in skin ageing since 1995, and for the last fifteen years has been developing the technology behind the Skin Life Analytics skin swab and its application in improving skin health.

The role of the mitochondrial theory of ageing in human skin

This CPD webinar looks to educate and explain how external and internal stressors can increase damage to the mitochondria and therefore accelerate skin ageing. Conversely if these stressors can be managed through active interventions, the pace of skin ageing can be slowed.

Accelerators of skin ageing and how do we manage this stress?

This CPD webinar discusses skin in the 21st century, which is subject to external stressors such as pollution and sun exposure, and internal stressors such as diet and stress. Sunlight and pollution damage cellular biomarkers but also damage the batteries of the cell – the mitochondria. Mitochondria are central to the vicious cycle of ageing due to reactive oxygen species causing DNA damage to the mitochondria leading to dysfunctional mitochondria, which in turn leads to decreased bioenergy.
